Canto Summer Program
Virginia

July 8 - August 4, 2024

This four-week program located in Herndon, VA, is focused on a fully staged production with orchestra in a professional setting.   Music and dramatic coachings, masterclasses, language, and daily diction, acting and movement classes will be offered in order to provide the most complete set of tools for all participants. 

The program will take place in Northern Virginia near Washington, D.C., and marks a new chapter in our scope and mission.  It will offer all elements of a professional working environment, with intensive rehearsals for the production and other concerts the program offers.

Singers

Perform a role in Canto’s full production of Le Nozze di Figaro.

Orchestra

Highly skilled orchestral musicians are invited to audition for a position in the Canto Orchestra.

Led by conductor Lucy Arner, who has worked in some of the world’s greatest opera houses, such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Metropolitan Opera,  the Canto Orchestra offers a unique opportunity to be a part of a fully staged opera production of Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart.

The Canto Orchestra members will also be able to audit all of Canto’s masterclasses.

Faculty

Our world-renowned faculty is composed of gifted artists, teachers, and coaches from the top opera houses in the world.

Canto creates an individualized, tailored program for each singer to find a safe space to explore and progress on their artistic journey.

This season, we are excited to welcome Ken Weiss (Washington National Opera and WNO Cafritz Young Artist Program), to our faculty as well as guest artists Joelle Harvey (Metropolitan Opera), Jamie Barton (Metropolitan Opera) and artist agent Alex Fletcher (President of Fletcher Artist Management)
